Bricks and barbecue were the theme of this year's Young Architect's Forum competition held by the Masonry Institute of Tennessee (MIT).

Held annually, MIT hosts this competition to give young architects the opportunity to design a limited-edition print to be used in the Excellence in Masonry competition later in the year. The MIT Excellence in Masonry competition is an annual event held to recognize architects, masonry contractors and building owners.

Nineteen entries were submitted this year from across the state. The winning entry, submitted by Kim Kennedy, featured red text with an embossed brick layout. Each entry showed great craftsmanship and careful attention to details. In addition to the limited-edition print, the first place entry also received a $1,000 prize. Second place received a check for $500, and third place received $250.

The ceremony was held at the Bricklayers Local #5 in Nashville. Participants and judges had the opportunity to show their skills in brick and blocklaying, while also enjoying barbecue and fellowship.
