2003 MIC Federal Officials Seminar

By Rashod R. Johnson, P.E.

On Thursday, November 6, 2003, the Masonry Industry Council hosted its annual "Masonry Industry Seminar for Federal Officials". This year's seminar was attended by 100 federal employees who design, oversee, and construct Federal projects all over the World. Employees from over 30 Federal agencies were represented. This year's attendance was the highest in MIC history. This one day seminar serves as a tool to teach these officials about the proper design, detail and installation of masonry products. It also served as an opportunity to educate them on the advantages of selecting a masonry building system for their various Federal facilities.

This year?s topics were Masonry Research by Dr. David McLean of WSU, Impact, Blast and Bullet Resistance of Masonry by Dennis Graber of NCMA, Constructability by Jerry Painter of Painter Masonry, Mold and Masonry by Peter Nelson of SGH Consultants, Masonry Building at the World Trade Center by David Biggs, and Inspecting, maintaining and Repair of Modern Masonry walls by Rick Filoramo of IMI. The Masonry Industry Council?s Federal Official?s Seminar is an invaluable tool to increase masonry?s market share in the government market.

The Masonry Industry Council is comprised of: The Brick Industry Association, The International Masonry Institute, The Mason Contractors Association of America, The National Concrete Masonry Association, and The Portland Cement Association.
